Bike Program
The Youth Activities League Bike Program is designed as a "hands-on"
course of instruction in rebuilding and repairing donated or
confiscated bicycles. The refurbished bicycles will be donated to
children in our community during events such as: The Christmas
giveaway, station open house, Camp C.O.U.R.A.G.E., as well as
various other community events sponsored by the station.
A Governor’s Office of Criminal Justice Planning Grant and The City
of Industry Sheriff’s Youth Activities League currently fund the
Bike Program. The La Puente Valley Regional Occupational Program
provides an instructor for the program. This instructor is certified
in bicycle repair and is funded by the Y.A.L.
The bike shop program was started as a means of providing high
school and middle school aged students with vocational training in
the area of bicycle repair and maintenance. When they complete the
course, students receive a certificate of completion form the
course. This certificate will enable them to work in the bicycle
repair industry.
Students receive approximately 4-6 hours of instruction a week for a
period of one year. After completing the course, qualified students
will then mentor and help train other students during future program
sessions.
We anticipate refurbishing 200 – 250 bicycles a year. The students
work on the bikes in “The Bike Shop”, a fully equipped workshop,
located at The City of Industry Sheriff's Station Community Service
Center.
Upon completion of the program, the students are allowed to rebuild
a bike for themselves as a reward for their dedication to the
program.

Service Center located at 205 North Hudson Ave. (directly across the
street from the Sheriff’s Station.) |
